60-year-old man commits suicide in Ilesa

The Eid-El-Kabir celebration ended tragically at Concord Hotel area, Oke-Omiru, Ilesa in Osun State when a 60-yearold man popularly called Sunre reportedly jumped into a well in his house and claimed his own life.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of yesterday, stunned the residents and inhabitants of the area who gathered in groups to discuss.

It was not clear why the man committed suicide but it was gathered that the deceased owed somebody N350,000, which he was unable to pay.

The deceased, a popular building materials dealer at Adeti Street in the heart of Ilesa, was said to have attempted to jump into the well on October 15 but was prevented by close associates and kindred.

However, there was no one around yesterday when the man jumped into the well.

Sunres body was discovered by a resident who wanted to draw water from the well many hours later.

The resident raised the alarm which alerted other people in the area.

The residents of the area reported the incident to the police and fire-fighters, later came to remove the body from the well and deposited it in a mortuary in Ilesa.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, who confirmed the incident, said a team of detectives, led by the divisional police officer, A Division, Ilesa, went there to remove the corpse.

Odoro assured the public that the police would get to the root of the matter.
