Eid El Kabir: Shettima distributes 540 bulls to Maiduguri residents

In the spirit of the Eid El Kabir
celebrations, Governor Kashim Shettima of
Borno state has approved the distribution of
540 bulls to cater for the less privileged,
especially those who cannot afford the 'Eid
Addah Sacrifice' in Maiduguri and Jere
metropolis.

At least, an average bull in Maiduguri open
market cost about N100,000, and that could
cost the state government N54 million.

This isapart from the rams and other gestures being distributed by the state government in the last one week in preparation for the festivity.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Home Affairs,
Information and Culture, Mr. Inuwa Bwala and
made available to newsmen in Maiduguri
yesterday.

Bwala said, in Shettima's usual magnanimity, a committee has been set up comprising of
religious leaders, traditional rulers and
officials of the affected Local Government
Areas, as well as representatives of the state government, in which, they have been mandated to work out modalities for the effective and efficient distribution of the bulls.

The committee according to the Commissioner,
has since commenced work and will announce the venues for the collection of the bulls before the Sallah.

He said, "Governor Shettima kindly urges
residents and beneficiaries to conduct
themselves orderly".

Bwala however said, the committee advices
those who can afford the sacrifice to please
allow their brothers who cannot afford it to
benefit from the gesture. Pointing out that
each of the 15 wards in the metropolis and
Jere respectively are to have 20 bulls to be
slaughtered and shared to poor residents.

Shettima while wishing all citizens happy Eid El Kabir in advance also urged the Muslim ummah to use the period and pray for the restoration of peace and tranguility in the state and the country in general.
