Auguster Douglas-Ayam, sister of a Senior
Special Adviser to President on Research,
Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto
Douglas, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
It was gathered that the victim, Auguster
Douglas-Ayam, was abducted about 9.30pm at her store in Ogbia, Bayelsa State on Monday.
It was learnt that the gunmen, who were
dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms seized
Douglas-Ayam after shooting sporadically into the air to scare her neighbours.
A resident of the area said: "We initially
thought they were customers who came to buy
something from her. It was when they started
shooting sporadically into the air that people started to scamper for safety.
During the period people were running helter-skelter was when they seized their target.
As I speak to you, the whole town has been
thrown into confusion as we do not know where they had taken her to.
We are imploring the security agents to rise
to the occasion and get the innocent woman
released.
What has the woman done to them. Is
it because she is a sister of Oronto Douglas?"
When contacted, Commissioner of Police,
Bayelsa State, Mr. Hillary Okpara, confirmed
the incident, saying the abductors came in
military fatigue to disguise to enable them to seize their target.
I have dispatched anti-kidnap team to the
scene of the incident. I can assure you that
the perpetrators will face the music," he
said.
