Security Beefed Up as Jonathan Visits Ekiti, Ondo Today

As President Goodluck Jonathan visits Ekiti
and Ondo states Saturday, the Police in Ekiti and the General Officer Commanding 2nd
Division of the Nigerian Army have assured
that they are ready to secure lives and
property before, during and after his visit.
The President is billed to inaugurate projects at ABUAD, the first private University in the State owned by Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and the Federal Polytechnic in Ado Ekiti.

The Command's Public Relations Officer in
Ekiti, Mr Victor Babayemi, hinted that the
Police Commissioner, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, has
deployed officers to all strategic locations
in the state capital and beyond, to control
traffic and ensure that no crisis occurs
throughout the period the President will stay in the state.

The Police spokesman said that the President's visit coincided with the Centenary celebration of Catholicism in Ekiti, to which the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and the representative of Pope Francis are guests.

So the Command is quite aware of the tasks
ahead, and we have taken measures to ensure
that Ekiti remains peaceful. I am convinced
that with the steps taken so far, no crisis
will be witnessed throughout the time the
eminent Nigerians will be here," Babayemi
assured.

However, the General Officer Commanding 2nd
Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General
Tijani Jibrin, Friday relocated to Ondo state capital, Akure, to ensure a hitch-free visit of the president.

While speaking with journalists on the
preparedness of the Division for the
President's visit. Gen. Jubrin also assured
the people of the two states of adequate
security before, during and after the president's visit. The Army boss disclosed
that, the new brigade command in Akure had put in place necessary machinery for the security of the people within a short period of time.

He said that the Army would work in
collaboration with all other security agencies like the Police, the Department of State Security Services (SSS) to ensure that there is no security lapses during the visit.

Jibrin said: "From the military point of view, I am satisfied with the arrangement put in place and I am on ground to make sure that the visit of Mr. President".

They have assured me that they are working in collaboration with other security agencies in the state and they have briefed the Governor on the development, what matter most is that everybody should see the visit as one in which all hands must be on deck to ensure that it is hitch free."

Meanwhile, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) have been exchanging words over the President's proposed visit, with the latter alleging that the former was planning to ferment trouble in order to dent the image of the ruling party.
