Former aides of FCT Minister in the dock for fraud

Two former aides of the FCT Ministers are presently in the dock over a land scam they got involved in.

Two former top officials in the office of the Federal Capital Territory Minister Bala Mohammed, Muhammed Yau Gital and Sani Abba, have been dragged before a High Court in the FCT on a four-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, obtaining by false pretence and abuse of office.

The duo who were Chief of Staff to the Minister and Deputy Director, Mass Housing at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), respectively, were charged by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), after it was established that they conspired and defrauded one Chief  Duru  Mike Ejiogu, managing director of Visioni and Strauss Nigeria Limited to the tune of N60 million on the pretext that the said sum would be used to facilitate the change of Land Use in respect of Plot No. 523, Cadastral Zone, Kukwaba District, from Passive Recreation to Residential area.

The anti-graft agency opined that the accused had, sometimes in March, 2014, obtained the said sum from Ejiogu with the promise that they would facilitate the change but after collecting the money, they neither did as promised nor did they return the said sum to the business man.

It was when Ejiogu realized that he had been defrauded that he petitioned the EFCC and after investigations, Yital and Abba were arrested and charged to court.
