Lagosians woke up on Monday morning to behold the sight of a fire at one of the city's iconic structures, the 25-story Great Nigeria House on Martins Street on Lagos Island.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained but sources said it may have been an electrical fault.
No life was lost although documents and office equipment were destroyed in the dawn fire which began from the first floor and spread upwards to the third floor.
Spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident.
Thick smoke was seen billowing from the tall building ad at 11am after firemen had battled to quench the blaze.
More details later.
